It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, check it out and join in the fun! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!Happy Monday everyone! It's been a busy week here on my blog, mostly because I'm still churning out daily posts for the 30 Day Book Challenge. I'm having a good time answering the questions. You can check out my answers from this week here:
Day #6: A Book That Makes You Cry
Day #7: A Book That's Hard to Read
Day #8: A Unpopular Book I Believe Should be a Best-seller
Day #9: A Book I've Read More Than Once
Day #10: The First Novel I Remember Reading
Day #11: The Book That Made me Fall in Love with Reading
Day #12: A book so emotionally draining you couldn't complete it or had to set aside for a bit
I linked up to a new Friday meme called Let's Talk hosted by Smash Attack Reads and A Book Obsession. (You should totally join in!) My post can be found here.
On to the books!
Read and Reviewed:
Charlotte & Emily: A Novel of the Brontës by Jude Morgan (I looooved this)
The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett (short and sweet)
Never Fall Down by Patricia McCormick and The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang (very quick thoughts on both of these important works)
I also read (but haven't reviewed):
The Middlesteins by Jami Attenberg
The Ruins of Lace by Iris Anthony
and
The Lincoln Conspiracy by Timothy L. O'Brien (I'll be taking part in a tour of this book in mid-November, watch for that!)
Currently Reading:I just cracked open The Art Forger this morning. I've been looking forward to this one!
Upcoming Reads:
Remember how I said I was going to ban myself from requesting books from the library until I got my stacks under control? I succeeded, no requests! It's been painful, I won't lie. Here are a few of the books that I have at home that I'm hoping to read this week:
So, no library books but I can't complain at all. I have a good feeling about all of my upcoming reads!
Have a fantastic week everyone! Please consider following my blog, liking The Relentless Reader on Facebook and/or following me on Twitter.
What books do YOU plan on reading this week?

This is How You Lose Her is one I really want to read. I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, me too! I'm so happy with the books I have lined up for this week :)
DeleteWay to go on sticking to your library request ban! I am off to check out your answers to a couple of the questions. Have a great week of reading.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't easy! I have a list of books to request after this ban is over ;) (a LONG list, lol)
DeleteI recently put the Ruins of Lace on my TBR pile.

It was a good one Amy, I liked that it was told from the point of view of so many different characters
DeleteThe Art Forger looks really interesting. I have so many books unread on my own shelf I can't even think to start requesting more from the library :)
ReplyDeleteI normally request many books from the library, every week. I had to stop!! Just for a bit though :) I'm in the middle of The Art Forger right now, I can't put it down!
DeleteThe Art Forger sounds like a good read. Thanks for posting! Have a great week.

DeleteThe 30 day book challenge is a fun idea!
ReplyDeleteThe End of Your Life book club looks intense, I'll be interested to see what you think
Wishing you a great reading week!
Shelleyrae @ Book'd Out
Some of the questions are very hard to answer! But it's keeping my brain working and that's always a good thing right?
DeleteLooks like you're moving along well. I'm checking some of your 30 day posts too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
I've had a great run of reading lately, yay!
DeleteEnjoy your books and your 30 day posting schedule.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book was Suite Scarlett by Maureen Johnson Please come see what I'm reading now.
Thanks :) Suite Scarlett, I don't think I've heard of that one.
DeleteWay to go on your library request ban ... what will power ;)
ReplyDeleteYour books this week are all new to me, enjoy them all and have a great week!
It's been HARD, I can't lie. I'm looking forward to reading all of the books I have stacked up at home and then getting back to the library! :)
DeleteLibrary books are the only thing I have successfully cut down on! I kept taing books out, not getting round to them, renewing them several times, then taking them back unread!
ReplyDeleteOh, and isn't that the worst?? Whenever I have to do that I want to apologize to the poor books, lol.
DeleteI have been meaning to read This is How You Lose Her- I am excited to read your review! I am really enjoying reading the 30 Day Challenge posts too! Way to go on the unpopular book question!
ReplyDeleteI really am looking forward to all of my books this week, I think I've got some goodies in store for me. Yay! The 30 Day Challenge has been a hoot :)
DeleteWow, the 30 Day Book Challenge sounds interesting but a lot of work too! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's not too bad, I don't put a whole ton of time into those posts because otherwise I'd never have made it past day 4, lol. It's been fun!
DeleteYou've had a prolific reading week! Illuminations looks quite interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steph, it's been a busy one! I'm really looking forward to Illuminations. I've heard nothing but good things about it :D
DeleteThe Art Forger looks tempting...thanks for sharing! And thanks for visiting my blog...enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurel, it's a good one!
DeleteI really want to read Illuminations. The Art Forger looks really good as well.
ReplyDeleteKendal
I hope you're able to get to both of them Kendal :) I'm loving The Art Forger so far!
DeleteI really need to stop getting books from the library and focus on my pile. I don't know if I'll ever do it! I'm looking forward to reading The Uncommon Reader (from the library!)
ReplyDeleteThe library is my crack cocaine I swear, lol. It's been so hard not to request books! I'm compiling quite a list for when my self-imposed ban is over :)
DeleteThat's a good list of books read and to be read. Well done on not requesting library books! I look forward to reading your thoughts on the Shapiro, it sounds very good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Charlie, last week was a good one for reading and this week promises to be the same!
DeleteWell done for keeping the incoming books at a minimum. I'm trying that too. Some weeks are better than others... (sigh).
ReplyDeleteIt's been difficult, but I'm doing it! You should see the giant list I have going for when my ban is over, lol.
DeleteLooks like you had a good week reading, doing your challenge, and sticking to your resolve to not request more books. Good on ya! Happy reading this coming week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristin! I'm pretty darn pleased if I do say so myself ;)
DeleteI always have stacks of books checked out. The number of stacks depends on the number of projects I'm working on. Right now, I'm sorting through novels set in Roman Britain -- I know I'm not going to read more than one or two so I have to make some choices!
ReplyDeleteOuch, the choosing is always hard isn't it? Good luck!!
DeleteThe book "Symphony" by Jude Morgan is super depressing; hopefully the one you have is not as much of a downer! Good writing, though.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
I'm going to find and devour as many Jude Morgan books as I can..very soon ;)
DeleteOhh. I have an ARC of The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe I got from work. I've been meaning to read it, but hesitant lest it be too sad.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that it's going to be a teary read. I'm always drawn to those sorts of books though. I don't know why!
Delete"The Art Forger" sounds fascinating, and i now just googled the art theft from back then. Wow. Looking forward to your review. Have a great reading week!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great read Dorothee, kept me glued to the pages!
DeleteCongrats on stopping the requests! I am trying to follow your example and stop my weekly library visits but it's so hard...
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda waiting for one of the librarians to call me! Where are you Jen? Are you ok??? LOL!
DeleteI just got a copy of The Ruins of Lace in the mail today - can't wait to read it!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog!
~Kristin @ Always With a Book
I hope you enjoy it Kristin, I really did! Lots of good characters :)
DeleteYou're killing me with cool new memes and events and whatnot! I'm an OLD BLOGGER!!!! *leans on cane*
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read your Uncommon Reader review!
Ha ha! You aren't old, you're experienced! Seasoned! :)

ReplyDeleteI LOVED it Shonda! Move it to the top of your tbr pile! :)
DeleteThe Brontes are so interesting - how have I NOT heard of this book??
ReplyDeleteWhatcha readin' this week @ the Brunette Librarian :)
I don't know! LOL ;) I hope you get to it, you'll love it!
DeleteThanks for visiting my blog! The 30-day challenge seems like fun! I remember doing the bookpic one and I kept forgetting to! Love your line-up ... looks like you're in for some good reads. The Art Forger looks good. I remember picking up The Rape of Nanking and flipped to those photos -- I decided not to read it bec the photos were too disturbing for me.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to do my daily post yesterday, whooooops! I'll be making a double post today at some point ;)
DeleteThe Rape of Nanking was definitely disturbing. There's no getting around that. :( Very powerful though.
I'm reading The Middlesteins right now, and I'm really enjoying it! I need to start The Art Forger. Looking forward to seeing what you think of it!
ReplyDeleteI liked The Middlesteins but The Art Forger knocked my socks off ;) Great book!
DeleteIllumninations sounds great. I'm really proud of you for keeping to your self-imposed library ban!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the middle of That's How You Lose Her and I think Illuminations is next. I'm pretty excited about reading it, I've really been looking forward to it!
DeleteThanks Lindsey, I'm proud too!
A Junot Diaz book! I've been seeing this around and I am so aching to get my hands on it. I have a feeling that it would resonate with me. Unfortunately, I have quite a stack of novels to be read until the end of the year, so I doubt I'd find the time to read it this year. Perhaps early next year? You've also done a lot of blogposts last week, and they all have very interesting themes, will visit a few of them. The End of Your Life Bookclub also looks mighty interesting. Will check that out too!
ReplyDeleteThe 30 Day book challenge has kept me a very busy blogger, whew! It's hard to get to every book that you want to isn't it? That's something that makes me sad at times! How can I read ALL THE BOOKS??
DeleteI'm a Bronte fanatic, and I've been wanting to read Charlotte and Emily--glad to know you loved it so much! Right now I'm starting The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, and so far I like it very much....
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll read Charlotte and Emily, if you love the Brontes then I'm pretty sure you'll love that book :)
DeleteI've been hoping to get to that latest Morton..one of these days!!
OMG how do you read so much!!!??!!! Wow.
ReplyDeleteI'm LUCKY! I read fast and I read often, that's my trick ;) lol
DeleteSo interesting reading through all your 30 day book challenge answers! the End of Your Life Bookclub sounds intriguing! :)
ReplyDeleteI defintely want to try the The 30-day challenge- it sounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of the Bronte book- I find them so interesting as a family :)
Hope you had a great week
